Acupuncture in the case of a headache caused by high blood pressure (hypertension)

Every third inhabitant of our planet suffers from high blood pressure.
Such condition may be the consequence of a serious illness of the cardiovascular system, kidneys, endocrine system. In these cases, the long professional treatment with the use of medicines is necessary, and in some cases – a surgery.

However, more often high blood pressure occurs in the case of nervous system dysfunctions, for instance in the case of vegetative-vascular dystonia (VVD).
The characteristics of this illness are fluctuations of blood pressure, headaches and unpleasant feelings in the different parts of the body. Practically every person suffers from this illness to some extent during the life.
As a rule, VVD develops due to stress, mental and physical fatigue, infection, trauma, etc.
In most cases of mildly expressed manifestations of vegetative-vascular dystonia accompanied with high blood pressure, it is possible to manage it without medication.
A healthy diet, physical training, adherence to the regimen of work and rest, and acupuncture will help you to improve your health state, remove the manifestations of the illness and recover work efficiency.
You should massage the points intensely, in a circular motion, clockwise, during 2-3 minutes.

In the case of a significant increase in blood pressure, it is important to consult a doctor and take prescribed medicines. In this case, acupuncture is only a supplementary method that can help you alleviate the headache.

The first session

We use the points that are already known to us:
LI 11 (Qu Chi) is on the top of the elbow fold (at its outer end) when the elbow is maximally bent.

ST 36 (Zusanli) is 3 cun (the width of four fingers side-by-side) below the lower edge of the kneecap, one finger width lateral from the anterior border of the tibia, in a fossa.

The second session

UB 60 (Kun Lun) is located in a fossa between the tip of the external malleolus and the achilles tendon.

GV 14 (Da Zhui) is between the seventh cervical vertebra (that has a distinctive long and prominent spinous process) and the first thoracic vertebra.

The third session

PC 6 (Nei Guan) is 2 cun (the width of three fingers side-by-side) above the wrist crease between the tendons of palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis.

SP 6 (Sanyinjiao) is located 3 cun directly above the tip of the medial malleoulus on the posterior border of the tibia.

The fourth session

LV 3 (Tai Chong) is on the dorsum of the foot in a fossa distal to the junctions of the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones.

Massage of auricular points
Shen Men is located in the triangular fossa (denoted as 1 in the picture).
