The use of acupressure in the case of a headache caused by a cold

The first session

Point LI 4 (He Gu) is located on the back of the hand in the corner that is formed by the 1st and 2nd metacarpal bones, closer to the 2nd metacarpal bone.

Point CV 22 (Tian Tu) is at the notch in the superior aspect of the suprasternal fossa.

Point CV 17 (Dan Zhong) is at the 4th intercostal space level, midway between the nipples.

The second session

Point GV 14 (Da Zhui) is located between the seventh cervical vertebra (that has a distinctive long and prominent spinous process) and the first thoracic vertebra.

Yintang point is midway between the medial ends of the eyebrows.

The third session

LI 11 (Qu Chi) is on the top of the elbow fold (at its outer end) when the elbow is maximally bent.

ST 36 (Zusanli) is 3 cun (the width of four fingers side-by-side) below the lower edge of the kneecap, one finger width lateral from the anterior border of the tibia, in a fossa.

Massage of acupoints in the case of a headache caused by a cold is performed by the first method (intense pressure during 3-5 minutes). Distant points of systemic effect are selected for the first session; local points are added for the subsequent procedures.

General recommendations for fighting a cold

  1. Bed rest in the first days of an illness.
  2. Drinking lots of warm fluids (no less than 1.5-2 liters of fluids a day: it may be tea with raspberries, lemon or rosehip infusion) and eating minimum food in the first days of the illness.
  3. The lion pose 4-6 times a day.
  4. Gargling and cleaning the nasal passages with salt water.
  5. Inhalation of grated onion or garlic phytoncides in the first days of the illness, then – steam inhalations.
